About Cycling with the Poor Project
One Wild Journey
In January/February 2008 family members
and friends will ride a tandem mountain bike 1,500 km
from the bottom
to the top of the South Island through the eastern
ranges of the Southern Alps. This “never been done
before” off
road journey will traverse rough and rugged terrain.
It will include 4-wheel drive routes, shingle roads,
single tracks and some short sections of sealed road.
A forbidding array of mountains, rivers and lakes will
be crossed. You can guarantee there will be plenty
of blood, sweat and tears along the way.
Sean and Gillian Pawson, their five children,
Benjamin (19yrs), Bethany (17yrs), Anna (15yrs), Elizabeth
(14yrs) and Isaac
(12yrs), and a small group of wider family and friends
are working together on the enterprise. They are
all Kiwis with
wide ranging experience in outdoor recreation and adventure
pursuits. more
 World Vision NZ is
partnering with the family and team in the venture. World
Vision is the largest aid and
development agency in New Zealand, with a proven
track record in
community development. Their projects are carefully
designed to give
people a hand up, not a hand out. They are well
placed to
ensure that the money raised is managed professionally
and reaches its intended target.

One Challenging Objective
The aim is to attract 1200 new sponsors and donors
and raise over $100,000 for World Vision’s
Children in Crisis projects. Children are born to
be free - but in many places they are in chains.
You are invited to help make poverty history for
these children and their families. |
